Architects, often Europeans or first generation Americans, seemed to have been inspired by the old continent to reinvent eclectic and grandiloquent pastiches. With candid enthusiasm they compiled their creativity into strings of elegant mansions in the shade of great trees. They borrowed from each and every style to create buildings with carefree architecture, choosing among Victorian, Moorish, Tudor, Classical, Art Deco, Modern, Gothic or Medieval influences.
