Opened in 1929. It was a time of eclecticism and exoticism. Great archaeological discoveries had just been made in Latin America,
and as a result Toltec and Aztec motifs mixed with Art Deco made the improbable decor of the Vanity Ballroom.
The place became one of the city's biggest jazz venues, welcoming the big bands of Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey or Louis Prima.
